SUPERYACHTS
Composite Manufacturing and Design Ltd (CML, Composite Mouldings) and Sister company Buckley Yacht Design (BYD) have been providing design and build services to the Superyacht industry for over 10 years. This can be smaller components (lightweight furniture, infused sole floors, funnels, pools) but they are also able to project manage larger components, an example being the hull, deck and bimini build of the Oyster 1225 (formerly 118). These components were built at both HMS Daedalus and Merlin Quay where CML managed the project, boatbuild team and quality assurance to deliver a high quality Superyacht structure.
Design & Build
Buckley Yacht Design can carry out all aspects of composite engineering and design. This can be a concept from the stylist and parameter of requirements for which all the engineering can be calculated, like the Shemara Funnel, which needed to house radar and exhausts, or the refit of the sun deck for MY Crystal for which the owner wanted additional furniture made for entertaining. This was designed and engineered to be as light as possible due to being at the top of the vessel where you really don’t want any additional weight! All this can be passed onto CMDL or suitable builder for construction using the most appropriate method of construction.
Oyster 118
Composite Manufacturing and Design Ltd built the deck, bimini, infused sole floors and various smaller hand lay and infused components for the Oyster 118, a 37 metre luxury sailing superyacht.
M/Y Alicia
The 50m Motor Yacht ‘Alicia’ was built by Defoe Shipbuilding Co. in 1930 and refitted by Southampton Marine Services in 2018. Buckley Yacht Design was employed to carry out structural design engineering works and Composite Manufacturing and Design Ltd carried out the construction of various components.
BYD and CMDL have also worked with SMS Group on other Superyachts including “Shemara” and ” Lady A”. With the ability to design, specify, CNC and build components turnkey solutions can be offered to clients for all their composite requirements.
M/Y Shemara Project
MY Shemara for which CML were involved in the provision of a turnkey package which we fitted on site for the swimming pool, the Funnel and the Classic Deck Cowls. For the swimming pool we did the structural laminate and integral piping routes. This was made to be an infinity style pool with inner and outer pool which we delivered to site to be fitted on.
The funnel CML designed and built which housed the exhausts and outlets housed in boxes within the funnel. It also housed the Radars domes for which the laminate had to be engineered to not disrupt the signal while maintaining structural stiffness. It was constructed in a 3 part split mould to be able to remover the generator without removing the entire structure. It also housed the electrical switch board. This we delivered and installed on site.
