Seasons Greetings from BYD and CMDL

Seasons Greetings from BYD and CMDL

What an unpredictable year 2020 has been. Back in the first quarter, I really did not know what the future would hold but to my utter surprise, both BYD and CMDL will be finishing this year (and starting in the New Year)  stronger than I think we have ever been. I would like to thank our customers and suppliers for pulling together in these times and I sincerely hope things will continue to prosper.

All our regular services (Design, CNC, wet lay up, plug work) are still available. At CMDL we continue to build internal structures bulkheads, keel floors, chain plates, frame kits etc. We have invested in two further flat tables (bringing the total to 4 tables) for infusion and also a large transport trailer to deliver these parts to customers.

Despite all the uncertainty this year we are thrilled to be progressing with the BTC-22 brand and continuing to sell new boats. A big development from this year was to sign an agreement with Boats on Wheels as a new distributor of the BTC-22 here on the Southcoast.  Below shows a new boat bound for Cumbria with Hein from Boats on Wheels and Tommi after signing the distributor agreement.

We will be progressing further with a demo version of the BTC-22 and a new BR75. The BR series of Rhibs was also developed this year and we will have a 7.5 m Rhib available for demo in spring of 2021.

A new pontoon boat line will also be available from April of next year as can be seen below:

This versatile working platform ranges anywhere from 6m – 10m long with a width range of 2m – 4m. The first vessel will be for a customer making river cruises for up to 12 passengers, but other uses include House Boat, Commercial Vessel or Pleasure/Party Boat.

At CMDL we are also excited to have begun on a new way to build one off composite yachts without the need to undertake the expensive costs of building plugs or finishing temporary moulds. We will be building on this new method with subsequent builds varying in levels of complexity with hull shape.

New office in North America:

BYD-Naval Architects officially opened an office in Ontario, Canada to provide services to the Canadian and US markets. This move has come after we continued to experience a steady growth in client base for new build and refit clients in the commercial marine sector. We continue to build the business and in 2020 added Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Analysis to our portfolio of services.

Notable projects:

B Craft Akoya Super Yacht Tender:

This year we have been working with a new yacht brand for B-Craft. We supported the construction with Structural Design and Engineering along with optimization of the underwater hull utilizing CFD analysis.

Structural Packages for aluminium work boats:

In 2020 we have seen a growth with providing structural packages and assembly drawings for shipyards including cut details for the shell plating and all framing including the design of the most efficient way to integrate the structural components while reducing waste on material.

Buckley Multi 39 :

We have been developing catamaran kit packages for the 39’ Catamaran as pictured below. It has been designed to be able to provide support tailored to the individual and their requirements. You can either purchase the design alone, or a design and cut structural kit can be provided.

Fireboat bound for Prince Rupert BC:

BYD are currently developing a new fireboat/SAR vessel bound for British Columbia, Canada. The design package includes the naval architecture, structural design, fit out drawings and construction cut files for materials. The vessel will be powered with twin 480 hp engines with waterjet propulsion.

Luxury Electric River Boats:

BYD have been working on this luxury electric river boat for a private client. The work has included developing a hull with maximized efficiency to reduce the powering requirement from the electric propulsion.

CFD Projects:

BYD included CFD analysis in their portfolio of services for 2020 and put the software straight to work for various clients in order to analyze and optimize forms for above and below the water.

Opening times:

CMDL and BYD will close our offices and factory at 1pm on the 24th of December 2020 and we will open again at 7.30am on Monday the 4th of January

From all at CMDL and BYD we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
